May 11-Alison got around and headed off about mid-morning. She hoped to have time to visit the Blue Lagoon, to shop in Reykjavík, and to go on a puffin-viewing boat tour before her plane leaves tomorrow afternoon. She should have plenty of time to pull that off. Unfortunately for her, the weather is looking like it will be more typical (at least as we now see it) with clouds are rain forecast for today and tomorrow.
I think that Alison had a fun visit with us in Iceland. We enjoyed having her over. We had not seen for five years, so it was nice to get caught up on each other's lives. She has recently reentered the dating scene, so we heard a lot about the way it works these days. It sounds like that it has changed quite a bit over the past 20 years. Apparently, Alison is savvy enough technologically to figure it all out, but Sally and I think that we would be lost if we had to start dating all over again.
Since I was playing tour guide on Thursday, I could not teach English at Hraunborg. Instead, I did it today. I am teaching "actions" now and I found out last week that it is difficult to control 2-5 year olds once you get them jumping, running, walking, clapping, etc. Nonetheless, I tried again today and it turned out much better.
After Sally and I finished teaching in the morning, we returned to the apartment for dinner. It was nice and relaxing to spend a little quiet time in the apartment getting caught up on some work that had gotten pushed off over the past week. However, today was a shorter day at Varmaland, like all Fridays, so the peace and quiet did not last long. A few hours after she got home, Joslyn went to Borgarnes with Águsta's parents to spend the night at Maggi's and Signý's for their daughter Erla's birthday. Later that evening, Kristín and Imba, two friends of Alex's who live on farms in the area, came over to spend the night. Sally downloaded "We Bought a Zoo" for the iPad and the girls watched it late into the night while the rest of us went to bed.
