Sabbatical 2012

Sally received a Fulbright Fellowship to teach and conduct research in Iceland for 5 months starting in January 2012. Luckily, Shan, Alex (age 12), Joslyn (age 9) and Spencer (age 5) can accompany her on this adventure. This blog will allow family and friends to keep up with the trials and tribulations of our escapades in Europe.

Day 101-blogging about the blog

April 14-The Hays kids all got up early today, like they usually do on weekends, despite staying up later than usual the night before.  Erla, however, slept in!  So, our kids entertained themselves for an hour or so before she got up.  Sally made pancakes for breakfast.  When people talk about eating
"pancakes" in Iceland, they actually are referring to crépes, so our thick and fluffy American-style pancakes were a new treat for Erla.  They were tasty, but it sure would be nice if we could find buttermilk over here.  Then
Sally could cook up some of the truly excellent pancakes she makes in the States!  After breakfast, the kids played UNO, colored in Joslyn's new Rock Band Sketchbook, played with the sidewalk chalk outside, and watched more of the episodes from the second season of Glee on the DVDs that Erla brought over with her.  All good things must come to an end, however, and Maggi picked up Erla in the mid-afternoon to go to Reykjavík for a family function.
It was cloudier and cooler today, so we decided to spend the rest of the day hanging out at the apartment.  I made good headway on posting to the blog, but it went very slowly with so many pictures to sort through to figure out which ones to include.  Sally felt sorry for me, so she wrote blog posts for the previous few days to help speed things along when I get to those days.  I think that the kids enjoyed the lazy day and I was happy with the progress I made on the blog, so it was a good day overall.
