Sabbatical 2012

Sally received a Fulbright Fellowship to teach and conduct research in Iceland for 5 months starting in January 2012. Luckily, Shan, Alex (age 12), Joslyn (age 9) and Spencer (age 5) can accompany her on this adventure. This blog will allow family and friends to keep up with the trials and tribulations of our escapades in Europe.

Day 201-playing with friends

July 23-Today started out rainy and ended windy and chilly, so we stayed inside and spent the morning packing.
Alex’s friends Kristín and Imba came over in the afternoon. Alex taught them how to play Settlers of Catan.
Joslyn worked on her Gunnison math assignments until her friend (and Kristín’s brother) Daníel came over.
All of the kids played hide-and-seek in the apartment. It was surprising how long they played that game, given the small size of the apartment and the scarcity of hiding spots. They did spend a little time outside, playing on and around these wooden structures and looking for campus cats to catch and play with.
Sally drove back out to Kalmanstunga to pick up the coat that Alex left there the day before.
The drive out to Kalmanstunga allowed Sally to stop by Reykholt. In our visits over the winter we had seen this wooden doorway under construction, so Sally was very interested in seeing it up and painted.
Shan slaved over the blog today.  After Sally returned, we had supper with our guests.  Once they left, we all got our stuff around so we could leave for the West Fjords the next day.
